Acquisition of Roland Petit’s Carmen
2010 Grantee: Company
$99,750
Support for the restaging and presentation of French choreographer Roland Petit’s Carmen, originally choreographed in 1949. The restaging involves a team of specialists, who coach the dancers in performance techniques that authentically evoke the character of the historical work, as originally presented. Carmen was a benchmark ballet for Petit and established him as one of Europe’s leading choreographers. He is considered one of the major voices of European ballet in the second half of the twentieth century.
