Dance Advance has launched the second volume in the danceworkbook series. Belonging and Solo, Roko Kawai: an artist’s workbook follows Ms. Kawai’s cross-cultural exploration of contemporary improvisational dance practice as she situates it in relationship to her training in Japanese classical dance.

danceworkbook is a series of web based and DVD-ROM publications produced by Dance Advance. The series is housed at www.danceworkbook.org and DVD-ROMs are available by contacting Dance Advance. Please click here for a PDF of the September 2009 press release for further information.

This danceworkbook series establishes a body of reference material concerned with interrogating a variety of choreographic processes-stages of creation and development that form the “back story” to the finished dances audiences see in performance.

The debut work in this series was Braiding Unbraiding Rebraiding: Headlong Dance Theater examines artistic process in collaboration with Tere O’Connor.

February 25, 2010: The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, through Dance Advance, announced $920,000 in grants to 16 artists, companies, and presenting organizations for the 2010–2011 performing season.
