Gotham Chamber Opera’s 2014 production of I HAVE NO STORIES TO TELL YOU, presented in the Medieval Court of the Met Museum. Music by Lembit Beecher and libretto by Hannah Moscovitch. Photo by Stephanie Berger.

Composer Lembit Beecher presents Sophia’s Forest, a multi-disciplinary chamber opera that focuses on the experience of childhood. The work features a mechanical, electronic sound-generating sculpture that will grow from a small music box into a seven-foot tall object as the performance unfolds. Created in collaboration with the Drexel ExCITE Center, the sculpture will represent a family heirloom belonging to the principal character, a 9-year-old girl. Directed by Brian Staufenbiel with original libretto by Hannah Moscovitch, Sophia’s Forest will be performed by soprano Kierra Duffy and the Aizuri Quartet.
