Apply for a Grant
PEI awards grants of up to $250,000 for exhibitions implementation and up to $25,000 for exhibitions planning.
Adjudication Panels
A panel of internationally-recognized visual arts professionals reviews applications annually and determines the awards. Click here to see a list of past panelists.
How To Apply
Organizations and independent curators interested in applying to PEI should first read the program’s eligibility criteria. Prospective applicants should then e-mail PEI for more information about the grant application process.
Types of PEI Grants
Exhibition Grants are for the implementation of public visual arts exhibitions and are awarded based on what is required to conceptualize, plan, and produce an exhibition and accompanying publication(s). Exhibition implementation grants may cover a period of support of up to three years from grant award notification and the project must be completed within that time frame.
The criteria used by the adjudication panel to evaluate exhibition applications may be found on page 10 of the PEI 2010 Guidelines.
Planning Grants are for applicants to research, plan, and develop exhibitions, or to develop curatorial and programmatic capacity. These grants may also be utilized for curatorial consultation in conjunction with planning. Organizations may request up to $25,000 and independent curators may request up to $5,000. The award must be expended within one year. Planning grants are adjudicated during the annual panel meeting, separately from exhibition grants.
The criteria used by the adjudication panel to evaluate planning applications may be found on page 19 of the PEI 2010 Guidelines.
Please see the PEI 2010 Guidelines for more information about PEI’s exhibition and planning grants.
