Robert Matthews drawings are representational with varying degrees of narrative, but as he explains, they are not illustrations, but rather investigations of unsolvable questions. His recent solo exhibitions include Kindred, Daniel Cooney Fine Arts, New York, Knoxville Girl, Gallery Joe, Philadelphia, and the Sarah Moody Gallery, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala. He has participated in numerous group shows, including More Stories, Todd Hosfelt Gallery, San Francisco, Calif., The Drawing Narrative, Jenny Jaskey Gallery, Philadelphia, This Place is Ours, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and Drawn, Art Murmur, Los Angeles, Calif. Matthews received his B.F.A. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his M.F.A. from the Virginia Commonwealth University.
