MacArthur Fellow Janine Antoni is known for blurring distinctions between performance art and sculpture through a primary subject: her body. Ally is a performance-as-exhibition, conceived by Antoni in collaboration with pioneering choreographer Anna Halprin and contemporary dance artist Stephen Petronio. Rather than a traditional retrospective that attempts to capture the past, Ally uses the past to move forward. Antoni, Halprin, and Petronio collaborated over a two-year residency at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, to look back at their established philosophies, past works, and the important contributions each collaborator has made to his or her respective fields. The project combines installed environments, sculptures, and repeated movement performances by Antoni and Petroni on four floors of the Fabric Workshop and Museum.

Additional unrestricted funds are added to each grant for general operating support.
