Bryn Mawr College's Performing Arts Series presented Urban Bush Women and Compagnie Jant-Bi in Les escailles de la memoire (The Scales of Memory), an evening-length collaboration between choreographers Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of the United States and Germaine Acogny of Senegal. The seven dancers of Urban Bush Women were joined by seven men from Compagnie Jant-Bi. Les escailles is a dance that explores themes of memory, resistance, and love, while highlighting the visceral link between African-Americans and Africans and delving into chasms and similarities of gender, history, and geography.
