Miller Rothlein (MIRO) commissioned choreographer Antony Rizzi to create Lie to Me and Shorter Stories, a contemporary dance-theater piece informed by Rizzi’s time spent working with ballet choreographer William Forsythe. The work fuses image, text, and movement to create an environment of magical realism, complemented by video projections created by Pew Fellow Tobin Rothlein. Inspired by the writings of Franz Kafka, the interdisciplinary piece “explores the lies we tell ourselves and each other, and the lies we love to be told,” according to MIRO. Lie to Me and Shorter Stories premiered during the 2006 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

Founded by choreographer Amanda Miller and Pew Fellow and video artist Tobin Rothlein, Miller Rothlein (MIRO) is an interdisciplinary performance company that explores the collaborative intersections of contemporary dance, video, and visual art. In addition to producing the work of Miller and Rothlein, MIRO commissions new works by contemporary artists and engages artists in a series of residencies. In 2006 with Center support, MIRO presented Lie to Me and Shorter Stories, a new contemporary-dance theater work by choreographer Antony Rizzi.
