Bringing together some of hip-hop's most influential pioneers, dancer and choreographer Kyle "JustSole" Clark will present what he calls his "physical autobiography" in a dance-theater performance blending street dance techniques with spoken word narration and video. The Life of a Just Sole will explore themes of identity, family, self-expression, and the guiding force of art in an individual's life, as it introduces audiences to the history of hip-hop culture. Performers will include house dancers Caleaf "Big Leaf" Sellers, Tony "Sekou Heru" Williams, and Tony McGregor; lockers Alain "Hurrikane" Lauture and Omar "Firelock" Thomas; as well as B-boys Ivan "HeatRock" Cofield, Tony "Ynot" Dinero, and Brian "Hannibal" Newby. Together, these performers will survey a variety of dance styles through a combination of choreographed segments and improvised dance battles. Langston "DJ Foxx Boogie" Clement will accompany the dancers live on stage, spinning a spectrum of musical genres—from jazz to electronic dance music.

Additional unrestricted funds are added to each grant for general operating support.
