2010 Heritage Philadelphia Program Grant Guidelines
Goals of the Grant Programs
The goal of all Heritage Philadelphia Program grant funding is to encourage a high level of imaginative programming. Grants awarded through the Heritage Philadelphia Program are made in two areas:
Interpretation, which supports programs that interpret history in imaginative, experiential ways, and connect the present to the past. Heritage Philadelphia Program interpretive grants are intended to support projects and programs that go beyond organizational “business as usual.” Heritage Philadelphia Program’s grant-making goals are to promote:
- Excellent programming that is imaginative, experiential, and substantive, grounded in contemporary scholarship
- Imaginative interpretive practice
- Exploration of historical ideas
- Active engagement of audiences and stakeholders in all history programs
- Partnerships and collaborations that link history resources to other cultural, civic, social, and intellectual interests of the community to make history vital and expand participation in history
- Interpretive skill and capacity building within history organizations through implementation of important projects and access to professional development
- Public access to and programming about collections normally unavailable to audiences, where appropriate.
Preservation, which supports the preservation of and enhanced public access to interpreted, designated historic buildings throughout the Philadelphia area. Heritage Philadelphia Program preservation grants are made to projects that:
- Consider the site’s degree of historical significance and develop appropriate plans in accordance with its remaining original building fabric
- Provide enhanced and innovative interpretive opportunities for the site or structures
- Provide increased access to historic sites or structures
- Provide relevant interpretive programming along with preservation work.
