The Opera Company of Philadelphia was awarded $100,000 for the presentation of the American premiere of Hans Werner Henze’s Phaedra (2007). The production will star tenor William Burden as Hyppolyt, mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford as Phaedra, counter-tenor Anthony Roth Costanzo as Artemis, soprano Elizabeth Reiter as Aphrodite, and bass-baritone Jeremy Milner as Minotauros. Phaedra will be conducted by OCP Music Director Corrado Rovaris, directed by OCP Artistic Director Robert Driver, and designed by Phillipe Amand (sets and lighting) and Richard St. Clair (costumes). Educational activities include pre-concert lectures, a Taste of Opera community lecture/recital, and an open rehearsal for the Opera Company’s Sounds of Learning program.
