New Commissions based on Ellsworth Kelly’s Seine
2010 Grantee
$60,000

The Philadelphia Museum of Art was awarded $60,000 for the commissioning of two new works by jazz saxophonists and composers Joe Lovano and Chris Potter. The new compositions will be inspired by a single work of art in the PMA’s Modern and Contemporary collection, Ellsworth Kelly’s Seine, recently acquired by the Museum. Lovano and Potter will each perform a program of recent original music along with their new works. Lovano will be joined by pianist Kenny Werner, bassist Cameron Brown, woodwind player Billy Drewes, trombonist Gary Valente, trumpeter Tim Hagans, percussionist Jamey Haddad, drummer Francisco Mela, and vocalist Judi Silvano. Potter will lead a sextet comprised of pianist Craig Taborn, bassist Scott Colley, drummer Brian Blade, trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, and trombonist Robin Eubanks.
