Seneca Sounds
2010 Grantee
$25,000
The Crossing was awarded $25,000 for Seneca Sounds, new choral settings of ancient texts by Roman philosopher Seneca on the theme of stoicism. The Crossing, conducted by Donald Nally, will commission and perform three works by international composers Gabriel Jackson (England), Kamran Ince (Turkey/United States), and Eriks Ešenvalds (Latvia) as part of its Month of Moderns, the Crossing’s third annual festival of contemporary music. The festival will also include the East Coast premiere of The Waking Sun by Philadelphia composer Kile Smith. Performing on period instruments, the Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players will join The Crossing for Smith’s work.
