David H. Evans

In 1978, blues and African-American folk music specialist David H. Evans joined the faculty at Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis) and has since then been professor of music there. He is the author of Tommy Johnson (1971), and Big Road Blues: Tradition and Creativity in the Folk Blues (1987), and more recently, he has authored (with John Minton) "The Coon in the Box": A Global Folktale in African-American Tradition (2001) and The NPR Curious Listener's Guide to Blues (2005), and edited Ramblin' on My Mind: New Perspectives on the Blues (2008). He was a Center music LOI panelist in 2012.
