He has written extensively on dramaturgy, and his books include The Theatre of Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (1992), Rhetoric (2000), Epic of Dust (2001), and The Pilgrims of Matter (2001). In 2002, Castellucci was appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of France. In 2003, he became director of the theater section of the 37th Venice Biennale, and in 2008 he was one of two associate artists at the Festival d'Avignon.
