Questions of Practice: Curator Helen Molesworth on Authorship

Helen Molesworth on authorship. Filmed at The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage by Jorge Cousineau.

Editor’s note, June 2014: Molesworth was recently named the new chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, effective September 2014. We congratulate her and look back to this interview from our archives, filmed at the Center in February 2013.

Because issues of authorship and co-authorship are always on our minds, we asked ICA Boston Chief Curator Helen Molesworth to tell us what these terms mean to her. Molesworth says, “I’m really aware when I’m speaking publicly that a lot of other people’s energies reside in my thinking and that it is important…that the power that accrues to my name is not a power to fall in love with.”
