We asked experimental composer and Pew Fellow Bhob Rainey to talk about the relationship between noise and music. He responded by describing his interest in “finding the noise in music” and how the sound itself can “exceed the music.”
Bhob Rainey is an experimental composer, a soprano saxophonist, and a 2013 Pew Fellow. He holds an MA in jazz composition from the New England Conservatory of Music, and has been awarded grants from Meet the Composer and United States Artists. He frequently works in cross-disciplinary collaboration and digital sound generation. Recently, Rainey composed the score for New Paradise Laboratories’ Center-funded theater piece The Adults, which drew rave reviews from The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and many others.
