Mick Moloney (Pew Fellow, 2000) performs tonight (November 4) at the Puffin Cultural Forum in Teaneck, NJ. Moloney “traces the wondrous evolution of old-time American country and bluegrass music in 18th and 19th century Southern Appalachia where Irish, Scottish, German, and English immigrants, African Americans, and indigenous Cherokee all lived amid their music, songs, and stories.”  More info >  

Contrabando, an exhibition of work by 1993 Pew Fellow Rafael Ferrer, opens tomorrow November 5 at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY. Click here to read a recent interview with Ferrer. For even deeper insight, consider attending the following talks: On November 12, Mr. Ferrer will speak with Barry Schwabsky, the art critic of The Nation. On December 10, Edward J. Sullivan, a professor of art history at the Institute of Fine Arts and New York University, will also examine Mr. Ferrer’s work with the artist in attendance. Keeping Up with Lorene Cary

Lorene Cary, (Pew Fellow, 1995) is enjoying the success of her latest novel. If Sons Then Heirs, released in April by Simon & Schuster/Atria, is a "deeply moving story of a family's challenge to reunite, understand the truth about its past, and secure its legacy."

The book has secured many positive reviews from diverse sources including Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and the blog Viva La Feminista.

Cary is scheduled to speak this weekend in Philadelphia at Stagecrafters Theater, 8130 Germantown Ave. at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday — part of the Third Annual Chestnut Hill Book Festival. The Festival runs tomorrow and Sunday (June 9 & 10) and includes appearances by many other well-known authors. 

If you can't make it out to Chestnut Hill, Cary will is also giving a free talk at the Penn Bookstore on Monday, July 11 at 4:00 p.m.
