Jeanne Murray Walker
Jeanne Murray Walker has written a series of poems with tabloid headlines yelling SWEETHEARTS VANISH FROM TUNNEL OF LOVE or GARDENER WEDS HEAD OF LETTUCE. But after their cartoonish titles, Walker weaves poignant, curious, and disturbingly intimate poetic narratives of characters whose lives have led them to extraordinary cross roads. Ms. Walker holds a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree from Wheaton College. She has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, five Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowships, and many other awards for poetry. Her work has been published in five volumes, most recently, Gaining Time, and many periodicals, including Poetry, The Nation, Prairie Schooner, and The Atlantic Monthly. Her plays have been honored by the Minneapolis Playwrights Center, The Pew Playwrights Exchange, The Charlotte Repertory Theater, Arena Theater, and Lamb’s Players. Her scripts have been produced in Washington, Boston, Chicago, and London.
