Heritage/Evolution: The PRISM Quartet with Tim Ries and Miguel Zenón

8 May 2014
7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
World Café Live Philadelphia, 3025 Walnut Street, Philadelphia

The PRISM Quartet presents Heritage/Evolution, a three-concert series at World Café Live featuring world premieres of new works composed and performed by today's most inventive jazz saxophonists: Steve Lehman, Dave Liebman, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Greg Osby, Tim Ries, and Miguel Zenón.

Heritage/Evolution charts fresh musical territory, drawing on the saxophone's cross-cultural heritage to blend jazz with everything from Western and South Indian classical music to Romani and Latin American folkloric music.

This event is the second concert in the series, featuring new compositions by Tim Ries and Miguel Zenón. Multiple Grammy nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow Zenón is widely considered one of the most influential saxophonists of his generation. Ries is a versatile and thoughtful saxophonist and composer, as well as a former member of PRISM, who currently tours with the Rolling Stones.

Please check the World Café Live website for information on Heritage/Evolution 1: PRISM with Steve Lehman and Rudresh Mahanthappa on April 11, and Heritage/Evolution 3: PRISM with Dave Liebman and Greg Osby on June 11.
