The Philadelphia Chapter of the American Composers Forum invited composer and improviser Pauline Oliveros to conduct workshops with Philadelphia musicians in the areas of meditation, musicianship, and improvisational techniques. Joined by her Deep Listening Band, Oliveros also presented two concerts at the Trinity Center for Urban Life with the SoundExchange Ensemble, a group of 14 local composers and performers. With a career spanning fifty years, Oliveros is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2012 John Cage Award from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts and the William Schuman Award for Lifetime Achievement from Columbia University. She is a Distinguished Research Professor of Music at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Darius Milhaud Artist-in-Residence at Mills College.

The Philadelphia Chapter of the American Composers Forum (ACF Philadelphia) is committed to supporting local composers and developing new markets for their music. By linking communities with composers and performers, ACF Philadelphia fosters a demand for new music, enriches communities, and helps develop the next generation of composers, musicians, and music patrons. In 2010, the organization received Center support for SoundExchange, a three-day residency with award-winning composer Steve Reich. The project culminated in an Argento Chamber Ensemble performance of Reich's Double Sextet, for which he received the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Music, and the Philadelphia premiere of Daniel Variations, dedicated to the late journalist Daniel Pearl.
