Financial Software Upgrade

Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

2009
$85,000

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is the oldest natural history museum in America, with an extraordinary collection of specimens of the natural world and an extensive program of scientific research. This grant allowed the Academy to replace their financial software system, which had been in place since 1996. The new system, Serenic Navigator, provided greater flexibility and access to financial information, upgrading fundamental infrastructure resources to support the research and educational mission of the Academy, and improving productivity. With this system, the Academy was able to measure the effectiveness and cost of programs more effectively, as well as account for complex grant budgets accurately. The production of clearer and more detailed financial statements was integral to the Academy's merger with Drexel University in 2012.[footnote Management grants, through the Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative, were awarded through 2013 following which a new funding category, Advancement grants, was introduced to support substantial long-term organizational development.
